大家都知道，Gibson公司生产的les paul系列吉他是最早也是最著名的Solid Body（实体）电吉他之一。而我们所看到的les paul系列吉他都是真正意义的实心电吉他么？

半空心吉他的出现是为了解决空心吉他在加装拾音器后而易产生的回授现象，而半空心吉他美妙绝伦的音色也是众多吉他厂商追求发展的目标。在les paul这一大系列里，也有很多型号采取了为了追求能够让琴体产生更加优秀共鸣效果的挖孔设计。近来比较风光耀眼的，当数目前Gibson les paul量产系列的最高型号——les paul supreme了。

而custom shop中historic复刻的“云9”系列在追求了复古外观的同时，也同样采用了共鸣腔的设计，在减轻了琴体重量的同时获得了更加完美的音色。

Les Paul Elegant拥有的是共鸣腔而非减重孔。

减重孔（weight relief holes）却与共鸣腔完全不一样了。

共鸣腔是为了使实体吉他获得半空心吉他那样空灵的音色的声学空腔，而减重孔则是在尽量保持不影响音色的前提下减轻重量。

Gibson les paul系列大多采用的是桃花心木做的琴体，而桃花心木实在是太重了。这也是一部分人不喜欢使用les paul吉他的原因。

减重孔是1981年（经确认不是我们在吉他中国论坛中曾经讨论过的1986年）开始在量产Gibson les paul中使用的，基本上包括了les paul的所有量产型号（包括了custom这个型号）。一般的量产les paul有9个孔，custom shop的众多型号则没有减重孔；但是class 5则是个例外：custom shop的class 5拥有17个减重孔。
